Alton Concert Orchestra are pleased to announce that we start this year with the appointment of a new musical director.

The orchestra are delighted to welcome Sam Hairsine to the role and we look forward to an exciting year of music-making under Sam’s expert direction and enthusiasm.

We are grateful to all our fantastic applicants who made the daunting task of selecting a new conductor an enjoyable experience for the players!

In 2024 we welcomed accomplished Clarion® player, Alessandro Vazzana, into our orchestra.  Alessandro, Treloar’s School Alumni, will be playing with his ensemble at Treloar's in March this year. The Clarion® is a new instrument which opens the world of music performance to disabled artists like Alessandro, who plays using a gyroscopic head mouse.  Alessandro recently finished his time with the National Open Youth Orchestra (NOYO) and in Summer 2024 formed a Clarion trio with two fellow NOYO members.

If you're interested in finding out more, please visit the link to a BBC News article about the Clarion® below:

This year will bring new musical endeavours, with our Spring Concert on Saturday the 25th April 2026 at Alton Maltings Centre and A Night at the Proms at The Shed in Bordon on the 4th July 2026.

If you are not yet a member of ACO then now is an ideal time to make contact, we start a new year of music making and to join in the fun. Please visit our contact page for more information.

We are now offering one free term of playing if you would like to come and experience playing with an orchestra!  Everyone of grade 5 playing standard and above is very welcome.  Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries.
